Microsoft’s energy purchase has been named North American Wind Deal of the Year by IJGlobal

The annual IJGlobal Awards recognizes and celebrates the best in energy and infrastructure deals in the US over the past year. Microsoft yesterday announced that their energy purchase deal with Capital Power and Allianz Risk Transfer has been named North American Wind Deal of the Year by IJGlobal, an infrastructure journal and project finance magazine. Microsoft is using the combined output from Bloom and a Wyoming wind farm to cover the annual energy used at Microsoft’s Cheyenne, Wyoming, datacenter.

“This pioneering solution enables both investors and corporations alike to launch sizable renewable energy projects, and is a key growth area for Allianz,” said Karsten Berlage, Managing Director at Allianz Risk Transfer.  “By circumventing high up-front costs associated with clean energy, these projects will be brought online at a much faster pace and we are very proud to partner with Capital Power and to support Microsoft’s largest wind energy purchase to date.”

On a related note, Microsoft’s Director of Energy Strategy Brian Janous was named to the 2017 Energy Manager Today 50, Energy Manager Today’s annual list of elite commercial and industrial energy management achievers.
