Microsoft is significantly changing the Xbox Insider Program for slower rings

Microsoft is implementing some rather significant changes to the Xbox Insider program. The company shared a detailed post on Xbox Wire discussing what’s new. They’re now simplifying entry into the Xbox One Preview rings and partnering with various studios to provide Xbox Insiders with early access to Alpha and Closed Beta playtests of Xbox Live-enabled games on both Xbox One and Windows 10.

Many users in the late rings expressed interest in giving feedback sooner. Today, Microsoft is activating user-selected ring shifts–available for those who have reached certain Xbox Insider experience and tenure milestones–for fans to enroll in previously limited rings.

Microsoft is also providing Xbox Insiders with more flexibility with how they receive updates. Now you’ll still retain access to lower rings. So, let’s say you’re worried about the 60-80 GB the Alpha Insiders get each month, just go to the Delta or Omega ring and relax.

I feel this is a great way to enhance the Xbox Insider Program because it makes it more accessible even if you’re in a slower ring. It’s also great that they’re partnering with third-party to bring tests of major games. Hopefully Xbox Insiders will enjoy the changes and find that the system is more fair to those who didn’t get many updates in the past.
