Microsoft’s View 3D app finally delivers Apple ARKit’s coolest feature

With the HoloLens Microsoft officially has the best way to insert virtual 3D objects in the real world, but if you prefer to view your 3D creations while holding your arms outstretched, as is mandatory with Apple’s ARKit, Microsoft has teased the feature as part of their View 3D app since Spring this year.

Now in the latest update to the View3D app, only available to Insiders on the Fast Ring, the app finally delivers, allowing you to superimpose 3D content in the real world.

The update, to version 1.1708.4022.0 of the app, offers a number of improvements, including a new app icon, new welcome message and a new gallery of 3D objects built-in, less you get tired of the Mars Rover.

The most important feature is that the app is now able to insert 3D elements into the real world to “give life to Mixed Reality.

Users can now insert the Curiosity Rover, Harajuku Girl, T-Rex, Elephant, Pink Monster, and of course objects they download from ReMix 3D into their home or office (or presumably outside) with ease.

The update of course also includes the usual bug fixes and improvements.

The update is available for Windows 10 PCs and Tablets on the latest Insider version of the OS and can be found in the Store here.
