Microsoft may soon start offering the Surface Pro with Windows 10 S

When Microsoft introduced the Surface Pro, the company gave us hope for a Surface Pro variant with Windows 10 S. The company said it will offer a variant of the Surface Pro which comes pre-installed with Windows 10 S, likely at a cheaper price. And now, it looks like that could be happening sometime soon.

Microsoft recently rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro which adds support for Windows 10 S. The update initially didn’t have a changelog, but Microsoft has now released the official changelog after a small amount of backlash. The update brings support for Windows 10 S to a couple of Intel drivers that mostly deal with the so-called Dynamic Platform and the Thermal Platform:

  • Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Processor Participant: 8.2.11004.3973 enable support for Windows 10s.
  • Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Power Participant: 8.2.11004.3973 enable support for Windows 10s.
  • Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Generic Participant: 8.2.11004.3973 enable support for Windows 10s.

While we are speculating here, the Windows 10 S support for these drivers could certainly suggest an imminent launch of the Surface Pro with Windows 10 S. Or it could obviously just be a new update which makes sure everything works perfectly when users manually install Windows 10 S on their Surface Pro. We’ll just have to wait and see.
