Developers: Now there is no excuse not to update your Windows 10 app to Fluent Design

Microsoft is updating the open-source UWP Community Toolkit with lots of new features today. The toolkit can be used by UWP app developers to speed up development of their apps. And with the release of the UWP Community Toolkit 2.0, developers will be able to do a lot more with the toolkit and incorporate Fluent Design into their apps very easily.

The updated toolkit now comes with Fluent Design touches. To prepare for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, developers behind the toolkit will be updating the toolkit’s controls with Fluent Design over the coming months. The sample app for the toolkit has also been updated with a touch of Fluent Design to give developers an idea of how the toolkit can be used to easily implement Windows 10’s new design language into their apps. Not all of the controls of the toolkit are using Fluent Design at the moment, but the community plans on updating the existing controls with Fluent Design over the next few months — and they’ll also be utilizing all the 5 fundamental components of the Fluent Design system, including light, depth, material, motion, and scale.

Notably, the sample app has been updated to now include a real-time editor, too. It now features a XAML editor where you can edit the sample code for controls, and see the changes live on the side which is pretty awesome.

There’s a lot of other new changes in the UWP Community Toolkit 2.0 release, and you can find a list of all the changes here. You can also download the sample app from the Windows Store below to checkout all the different capabilities of the toolkit.
