Microsoft tries to woo PC gaming develoeprs with Xbox One resource boost

After Windows and Xbox converged into a single OS for game development, Microsoft came up with UWP application model allowing game developers to publish their games for both Windows 10 and Xbox One through Windows Store. When compared to Xbox games created for Xbox One using XDK, UWP games had access to very less resources when running on Xbox One. For example, the maximum memory available for a game running in the foreground is just 1 GB. With the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Microsoft is trying to change this scene. Microsoft is releasing Expanded Resources feature to UWP game developers through which they will now have access to 6 exclusive cores, 5 GB of ram and full access to the GPU.

After the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update launch, UWP games published through the Windows Store to Xbox One, games in the [email protected] program and games in the Xbox Live Creators Program will be able to access the expanded resources.

I guess more PC-focused game developers will take advantage of this improvement and publish their games to Xbox One through Windows Store. Fallout Shelter will be one of the first games to take advantage of the expanded resources on Xbox One. Check out Fallout Shelter here on Windows Store.
