Google to take on the Surface Laptop with the $1,199 Pixelbook Chromebook

Google is coming back with a new Chromebook. The company is set to have a big hardware event on the 4th of October, but almost all of the announcements have leaked already. Google’s new premium Chromebook device is part of the latest series of leaks, giving us a pretty good idea of what the company will have in store for its Chromebook fans.

Google’s new Pixelbook is a $1,199 Chromebook convertible. The device will effectively compete with Microsoft’s Surface Laptop. For one, it will have a touch display, as well as a Pixelbook Pen stylus that supports pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, and apparently has no long, too. Google’s Pixelbook will be slightly different from the Surface Laptop, though — you’ll be able to fold it up and turn it into a tablet, kind of like the Surface Book and other Windows convertible laptops.

In terms of the pricing, the entry-level variant will cost $1,199 and pack 128GB of storage, the 256GB model will cost $1,399 while the most expensive option comes at $1,749 with 512GB of storage. Needless to mention, these prices are very high for a Chromebook. In case you are wondering, there aren’t any technical details about the device’s processor or the display, but it’ll likely boast Intel’s latest 8th-gen processor.

Google’s original Chromebook Pixel wasn’t necessarily a success, but Chrome OS has matured since then and the ability to run Android apps — including Microsoft’s wide range of Android apps — could help Google paint a different picture for customers this time around. We’ll just have to wait and see in October.
