Along with the most affordable VR headset Oculus Go, Oculus today provided an update on their next generation of standalone VR technology. At Oculus Connect last year, they first revealed Project Santa Cruz that tries to bring the magic of a PC VR experience to an untethered form factor. Today, they revealed the updated Santa Cruz headset that delivers hand presence with two positionally tracked controllers. Oculus is using the same constellation tracking technology that they have on Rift and Touch.

Instead of using visible light, Santa Cruz controller will make use of infrared LEDs to work with the sensors used for inside-out tracking on the headset. Also, it now uses four ultra-wide sensors to support a large controller tracking volume, allowing for natural and unrestricted movement for uses insider their VR environment. Oculus will reveal more details about Project Santa Cruz in the coming months.
