WhatsApp Beta for Windows Phone adds hidden support for Verified Businesses

WhatsApp Beta for Windows Phone has had a minor update to version 2.17.286.

While at first glance there are no obvious new features, WABetaInfo has revealed some hidden features which show that the company is continuing their steadfast support for the Windows Phone app.

The headline feature is support for WhatsApp’s new Verified Business feature, which would let WhatsApp mark businesses as trusted and verified entities, and let users engage with them for items such as flight times, hotel bookings etc.

WhatsApp is believed to be creating a special version of the app for businesses, and while it is not known if this app will come to Windows Phone, the support for the Verified Status feature means Windows Phone users should be able to take advantage of the user side of the service without any issue.

Possibly less important, but more likely to be used, another hidden feature in version 2.17.286 is support for text status updates, which came to iOS and Android a month ago, but which has so far not been available on Windows Phone.
