Gameloft calls Game Over on Windows Phone

One of the most reliable supporters of Windows Phone has now called time on the OS, and has announced that it is withdrawing support for 3 of its biggest games.

Gameloft will no longer be supporting Windows Phones on Dungeon Hunter 5, and Sniper Fury for Windows Mobile and Modern Combat 5.

In a statement on their forum, a Community Manager firmly places the blame on Microsoft, saying:

For Windows Phone users: Microsoft announced recently that they are discontinuing development of this platform. For that reason, we will not be able to keep creating updates for DH5 for Windows Phones, and we are giving Windows Phones users the possibility to switch to an iOS/Android/PC device. This action is irreversible, so please be sure of your choice.

For Dungeon Hunter, Gameloft will help users transfer their account to Android, and for Sniper Fury and Modern Combat users will be able to transfer their progress to the PC versions of the game using their Microsoft Account.

Joe Belfiore’s announcement on Twitter that Windows 10 Mobile will not receive any further significant updates has given permission for many Windows Phone hold-outs to finally take action, including developers with apps in the store, and a number of developers have withdrawn their apps as a form of closure. It appears many Microsoft luminaries such as Belfiore, Nadella and Gates now use Android devices with Microsoft apps and utilities, suggesting the last Windows Mobile users should probably also follow suit.
