Gameloft retracts statement blaming Microsoft for them dropping Dungeon Hunter support on Windows Mobile

A week ago we reported that Gameloft would be withdrawing support for Dungeon Hunter 5 from Windows Phone, and would no longer be updating the app on that platform.

At the time their Community Manager firmly places the blame on Microsoft, saying:

For Windows Phone users: Microsoft announced recently that they are discontinuing development of this platform. For that reason, we will not be able to keep creating updates for DH5 for Windows Phones, and we are giving Windows Phones users the possibility to switch to an iOS/Android/PC device. This action is irreversible, so please be sure of your choice.

The press the statement generated must have caused Gameloft to rethink their statement, as it has now been updated to reflect the dwindling Windows Phone population, rather than Microsoft’s lack of support for the platform itself.

The statement now reads:

Fellow Bounty Hunters,
An internal miscommunication led to an incorrect statement regarding the end of support for Dungeon Hunter 5 on Windows Phones.
To clarify, the reason we will not be able to release further updates for Windows Phones is that, unfortunately, the community of players on this platform has become too small for us to support.
We thank all Windows Phone players for their continuous engagement in Dungeon Hunter 5, and want to offer them the possibility to migrate their progress to Windows PC, or to an iOS/Android device, in order to continue playing with the most recent content and events.
Dungeon Hunter 5 will still be available on Windows Phone for those who choose to remain on this platform, with all its current functionalities, but will not receive updates.

Gameloft confirmed that the Windows version of the app will remain supported and that the Windows Phone version will continue to work, and simply not be updated (rather much like the whole OS itself at present)

Gameloft has, in fact, continued to release new games for Windows Phone, in the form of Paddington Run 2, a movie-related endless runner, but given the stated decline in Windows Phone users, we wonder how long this will continue into the future.
