Apple’s 2017 iPhones just started to ship earlier this month and we are already hearing rumours about the 2018 iPhone devices. KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo today released a report about the devices that he expects Apple to be releasing next year.
Primarily they will be following the iPhone X new design with the notch yet bezel-less everywhere else. This means that all the iPhone will be missing Touch ID but the TrueDepth Camera set up in the front will keep FaceID alive.
This will finally bring an end to the uninspiring design first introduced with the iPhone 6 way back in 2014, and which was then replicated again and again in the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and finally the 2017 iPhone 8.
The report also mentions that two of these phones will be equipped with the OLED panels and the third one will have a TFT-LCD panel with a poor pixel density but will be the entry-level iPhone of the trio. This entry-level iPhone will be priced around $649-$749 with a lower resolution. Apart from this, the cheap phones will be using some inferior hardware too.
Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets: We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs (for instance, the PPI will be lower). The primary selling points of the TFT-LCD model may be the innovative user experience of an integrated full-screen design and 3D sensing with a lower price tag (we expect it will likely be US$649-749).
The humongous 6.5″ iPhone may have a pixel density of 500ppi. Taking a note of some rumours floating around the internet, it may also support Apple Pencil.
Note that the leak does come from a relatively reliable source, but we would advise you to take it with a grain of salt because plans may change internally at any time.
