Microsoft’s Azure Stack gets its first deployment in UK datacenter

The UK channel partner ITPS has deployed Microsoft’s hybrid Azure Stack infrastructure in its data centre, the first firm to do so.

“A large proportion of IT managers are still reluctant to move to public cloud due to confusion over the location of their data.

“With GDPR set to come in next year, this concern is growing. Azure Stack overcomes the problem by providing a consistent experience between public and private for a true hybrid experience.

“This allows us to offer a comprehensive cloud solution on a subscription basis to meet a substantial customer demand.” Paul Anderson, operations director at ITPS explained (via Channel Web)

Microsoft debuted its hybrid Azure Stack earlier this year, describing it as “a hybrid cloud solution that allows organizations to run Azure consistent services in their data center, providing a simplified development, management and security experience that is consistent with Azure public cloud services ”

Microsoft is not the only one playing with hybrid solutions, with Google and Amazon attempting to deploy new hybrid cloud solutions. Microsoft did dismiss their efforts as paling before Azure, noting that “Hybrid is not taking the virtualization customers have historically done and putting it into someone else’s data center. That’s why the AWS and VMWare offer as hybrid fails to address the real reason hybrid cloud is attractive to customers – and customers are left with the complexity of two vendors, two platforms, two portals and so on.”

With Azure Stack getting put through its paces in the real world, the corporate response to the new Azure story should prove interesting.
