Samsung is reportedly working on palm scanning technology to show password hints

Currently, Samsung flagships have 5 methods from which a user can choose one to unlock their phones. This includes Iris Scanning, Facial Recognition, Fingerprint Scanning, PIN Protection and Pattern lock. Well, all these features need some workaround for the times when the user isn’t sure about entering the correct password. Hence, a new patent from Samsung suggests that Palm Scanning will soon be helping you in that case.

Well, the lines on the palm are unique on each individual’s palm. And SamMobile reported that “Samsung thinks a person’s palm can be used to help users remember their password by hiding the hint in those scattered lines”.

As mentioned on the 42 Page long Patent filed by Samsung, they will be using the Camera of the phone to take a picture of the palm and the combination of lines on the palm will be matched with the ones stored on the device. The report clarified by saying that “This isn’t a method for unlocking similar to iris or fingerprint scanning; instead, Samsung wants to use palm scanning to ensure that the user requesting for the password hint is the owner of the device.”

We seriously think that an idea for using Palm Lines is really good and new and bringing something like this for an under-rated option on phones, the password hint is really a good and far more secured step towards protecting a phone because questions like “What was your mother’s maiden name?” is something people other than the phone’s owner can answer to.
