At KubeCon in Austin today, Microsoft made a series of announcements around Azure for the Kubernetes community. First, Microsoft is introducing a new version of the Kubernetes connector called Virtual Kubelet that can be used to target Azure Container Instances or any equivalent runtime. It features a pluggable architecture that uses existing Kubernetes primitives, allowing others to build on it easily.

Second, Microsoft is open sourcing the Open Service Broker for Azure (OSBA), built using the Open Service Broker API that will allow customers to easily connect their containers to Azure services. It will offer a standard way for service providers to expose backing services to apps running in cloud native platforms like Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry. Microsoft is also releasing an alpha version of a Command Line Interface for the Kubernetes service catalog which will help cluster administrators and app developers request and use services exposed through the Kubernetes Service Catalog. These new improvements will allow customers to manage SLA-backed Azure data services via the Kubernetes API.

Microsoft is announcing something called Kashti, a dashboard and visualization tool for Brigade pipelines that allows developers to manage and visualize Brigade events and projects through a web browser. This project is built as a Kubernetes service and installed via Helm.

Brigade helps developers and operations managers get their work done quickly by scripting together multiple tasks and executing them inside of containers. This has many applications including Kubernetes-native CI/CD, ETL, batch workflows, and more. Kashti extends Brigade with a dashboard UI, built as a Kubernetes service and installed via Helm.
