Logitech Craft is a well built premium wireless keyboard, but pricey

Earlier this year, Logitech announced its premium wireless keyboard called Craft. As my existing Logitech keyboard started showing its age, I started searching for my next primary keyboard. When I went to Logitech’s website, the first keyboard listed there was Craft. Also, Craft already had my attention because of its unique Crown input dial on the left. I’ve now spent over a week with Craft as my primary keyboard and here are my thoughts.

Great things:

  • Build quality: Trust me, Craft is one of the most well-built wireless keyboards available in the market right now. It is really solid and you will be definitely surprised when you get hold of it in your hands.
  • Typing experience: Even though it can’t match the mechanical keyboards out there, it has its own premium feel. I really got used to this keyboard soon and I felt it offers more accuracy while typing.
  • Backlighting: Backlighting on a keyboard may not be a big feature, but Craft has some additional tricks up its sleeve. It uses proximity sensors to detect your hands, illuminating the keyboard the moment your fingers approach. Also, backlighting intensity automatically adapts to lighting conditions, or can be set manually.
  • Compatibility: It works great with both Windows and macOS. You can switch between devices with a single keystroke.

Good things:

  • The Crown: I really like how the Crown spins fluidly just like Microsoft’s Surface Dial. If your application supports it, you can customize the Crown for various features ranging from adjusting volume to increasing exposure in a photo. Since I’m a right hand user, the location of Crown on the top left is not so convenient for me. If I want to adjust the volume for example, I tend to use the side scrolling in my Logitech MX Master 2S Mouse instead of reaching out to the Crown. But creatives will really appreciate the Crown, thanks to the integration with Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Adobe InDesign CC.
  • Logitech Options: Logitech Options is an easy to use app to customize all of your Logitech accessories. Overall UX is good and consumers will find it really useful.

Not so good things:

  • Pricing: Craft costs $199 in the US. You can justify the price for its great build quality, unique Crown dial, etc. But after all, it is just a keyboard. Microsoft’s Modern Keyboard which comes with almost similar build quality and fingerprint sensor costs just $129.99.
  • Rechargeable with USB type C/Battery Life: You need a USB Type-C cable to recharge this keyboard every week once it runs out of power. But the good thing is that Logitech has included a USB Type-C cable in the box.

You can order Logitech Craft keyboard for $199 here.
