Microsoft has temporarily blocked the AMD Meltdown and Spectre patches after reports of unbootable PCs. Users have taken the Microsoft forums to share the issues with the patches which allegedly stops PCs from booting. The company then has taken steps to ensure the patches aren’t installed on AMD based PCs and has blamed AMD’s documentation for the unexpected problems.
Microsoft has reports of customers with some AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing recent Windows operating system security updates. After investigating, Microsoft has determined that some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown.
– Microsoft spokesperson
Microsoft is working with AMD to ensure the issue is solved as soon as possible. Meanwhile, if your PC has gone into unbootable state then you can head to Microsoft Support Website for help recovering your PC. We do recommend the AMD owners to not install any updates until the issue is resolved.
