While Destiny 2 was a step forward over its predecessor in many aspects, one system felt like it took two steps back. Shaders in the first game would change the color of your armor and could be re-used an unlimited amount of times. This changed in Destiny 2 where shaders became one-time use items. This angered a lot of fans who felt that Bungie was pushing players towards its Eververse microtransactions store, and the company has finally stated that it will look into fixing the controversial shader system (via Eurogamer).

In the latest “This Week at Bungie” post on the company’s website, they detailed a few ways they are planning to change the system for the better and make it more similar to the one implemented in the first Destiny game.

“We know you miss Destiny 1 Armor Shader mechanics,” said Bungie’s Senior Design Lead Tyson Green. “[We’re] looking at ways to re-integrate that capability without losing the ability to shade weapons, Ghosts, ships, Sparrows, or customize specific pieces of armor.

“We also understand you want shaders to be more freely usable and not limited by availability. We’re looking at re-introducing shader collections or a way to get copies of a shader in your possession.

“This work is ongoing, and we’ll go on record as to when the solution will land as we get closer to a fix that we test and certify. For now, it was important to us that you know it’s on our workbench.”

This may have taken longer than some players would have liked, but it’s nice for Bungie to finally address the issue in a way that benefits fans.
