Telegram will now let users sign in with their Telegram ID on supported websites.

Consumers are used to signing in to websites with Google, Microsoft and Facebook, and now Telegram is getting in on the action.

As part of the Telegram ID project, the firm will let users with registered telegram accounts validate their accounts on external websites with just two taps (assuming Telegram is installed and set up.)

While the use cases for this are bountiful in theory, they are limited in practice as only a handful of websites will support the Telegram widget at launch.

Telegram is touting this as a way to promote a completely frictionless transition from websites, to bots for sites who rely on them for customer service. Though the hype around bots has contracted somewhat, Telegram still believes they provide a strong differentiator compared to alternate messaging apps.

Telegram’s new update will also incorporate an automatic night-mode as well.  With Telegram 4.8, users have an auto-night mode which is activated once a certain threshold is reached, By default users can have it switch to night-mode in low-light conditions, or they can let Telegram access their location and schedule it according to sunrise and sunset.

Auto-night mode first debuted in Telegram X, and this is one of the first features the firm is transitioning over to the main app.

These updates will be rolling out first to Google’s Android platform, but Telegram assures users that they’ll also come to iOS as well.
