We posted a week ago about a new vulnerability in the Adobe Flash Player which was apparently being used by North Korean operatives against South Korean researchers in “limited, targeted attacks against Windows users.”The malware can be delivered by web pages, but also by email or in Office documents.Most browsers and versions of Windows (and even Linux and MacOS) were affected, but Microsoft has today made a patch available for the issue.Microsoft notes the Adobe Flash Player KB4074595 for Windows 10 includes important security fixes, and notes:“This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player that is installed on any supported edition of Windows operating system.”The update can be downloaded directly from Microsoft here.Via WindowsLatest, ...ادامه مطلب

Last month, Intel pulled back its Spectre patches for some platforms as it caused rebooting and other unexpected issues in PCs. Intel today announced updated Spectre patches for Skylake-based PCs. They have released them to OEM customers and industry partners, they will test Intel’s patch and then release it to general customers.It is highly recommended to update your PCs with these patches. According to the Department of Homeland Security’s cyber-emergency unit, US-CERT, as many as 85 percent of all targeted attacks can be prevented with regular system updates.“I can’t emphasize enough how critical it is for everyone to always keep their systems up-to-date. Research tells us there is frequently a substantial lag between when people receive updates and when they actually implement them. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has received its 8th patch in Xbox Game Preview today. While it’s not large and just addresses some minor issues, it’s a step towards further improving and balancing different elements of its gameplay.The last patch issued for PUBG in Xbox Game Preview increased damage done to vehicles, and this latest update tweaks that element a bit more. Over on PUBG’s forums, the patch was detailed and states that the developer has reverted back to increased damage if a player is struck by a vehicle. The patching of the Speculative Execution vulnerability has not been going too well recently, with Intel telling users to avoid the patch they released to OEMs as it was causing reboots.Now Microsoft has itself issued an emergency out of band Windows Update (KB4078130) which disabled the patches for the Spectre Variant 2 bug (CVE-2017-5715).The patch addresses the same Intel reboot issue, with Microsoft saying it needed to disable their patch after Intel  admitted that its software was causing “higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior” that led to “data loss or corruption.”The anti-patch patch applies to Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8.1, and all versions of Windows 10, and Microsoft is also offering advice on how to disable the old patch via registry keys.Users who can not wait for the patch or want to read more can find the information at Microsoft here (desktop and server.)Via BleepingComputer.com, ...ادامه مطلب

If Mixed Reality is to get a foothold in the construction industry hardhat compatibility is a legal requirement. We have already posted about Meemim’s hardhat kit, which is already on sale but now giant engineering firm Trimble have announced their own version that should hit the market soon.Shown off at the World of Concrete exhibition, their kit integrates the HoloLens with a hardhat, making 3D virtual reality accessible to workers in the field, and bringing CAD drawings to life in the real world via the Trimble Connect software, which can stream designs from the cloud.The Trimble Connect software lets users select different layers of information from multiple subcontractors such as structural, mechanical and electrical workers, overlayed on the real environment.This lets workers check work against the designs, find unseen wiring and plumbing, find layout points on the ground, record and preserve data and more.The solution was developed in collaboration with Microsoft, features a suspension system and quick release clips and is ANSI approved. PC users have been complaining that Intel’s rushed Spectre and Meltdown patches were causing spontaneous reboots, and now Intel has admitted as much, and now officially recommends users avoid their software. “We recommend that OEMs, cloud service providers, system manufacturers, software vendors, and end users stop deployment of current versions on specific platforms,” said Intel executive vice president Neil Shenoy, “as they may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior.” Intel says it has identified the issue on Broadwell and Haswell processors and was  “actively working on developing solutions” for their other processor platforms such as Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Skylake, and Kaby Lake also. At present, it seems the Meltdown patches have been causing more issues than the vulnerabilities themselves.
