Microsoft is cutting more jobs this fiscal year. In the last fiscal year, Microsoft laid off 7,400 employees, mostly from the company’s smartphone business. Now, the company seems to be plaing another round of layoffs, this time cutting approximately 2,850 roles. According to Business Insider, 900 of the employees are from the company’s sales group, and all of the employees were already notified about the layoffs during the recent reorganization. In case you missed it, Kevin Tuer recently left Microsoft, where he was handling the company’s sales efforts. Following his departure, the company appointed Jean-Philippe Courtois to lead the company’s global sales efforts and introduced some major changes to its senior leadership team.

On its latest filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Microsoft stated:

In addition to the elimination of 1,850 positions that were aounced in May 2016, approximately 2,850 roles globally will be reduced during the year as an extension of the earlier plan, and these actions are expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2017.

It’s likely we may see even more layoffs in the near future, but it’s very interesting to see the company laying off employees from its sales group. Of course, a lot has changed since Kevin Tuer left the company, especially after the reorganization.
