Project Sonoma

Top Android developer Microsoft may have acquired another productivity startup.

Blog withMSFT has noticed that Microsoft has released a new app into the Android store.

Project Sonoma is a one-stop app for deskless workers which lets you see when you’re next scheduled to work, get important on-the-job info, chat with your teammates and more, all from your android phone.

The app, which seems like a combination of Slack and Trello, but more designed for service workers than office workers, allows employees to swap shifts easily and is currently in Private Preview. Users who’s business have signed up to participate can install and start using the app right away. If not you can get on the waitlist for when the app becomes available.

The app appears to be the creation of start-up “shiftr” (from the app ID) founded by Ludek Dolejsky and Adrian Dean. That start-up has now disappeared, suggesting an acquisition.

Many Microsoft watchers have long urged Microsoft to acquire Slack, but it seems Microsoft may have decided to go head to head instead with their own solution. Lets hope it works out for them better than expected.

See Project Sonoma in the Play store here and also available on iOS here.
