Recently, we got our hands-on the HP Elite x3. As we reported, the device ships with Windows 10 Version 1511 out of the box — it comes with build 10586.420 to be specific. As you may know, this isn’t the latest version of the OS. Additionally, Windows 10 Version 1511 also doesn’t support fingerprint scaers on Windows Hello, which is also a bit aoying since you won’t be able to use the fingerprint scaer on your new Elite x3.
Thankfully though, HP is going to release the Aiversary Update for the Elite x3 pretty soon. While answering some of the frequently asked questions about the Elite x3, the company has revealed that the Aiversary Update will be coming to the Elite x3 on September 13th (which is just a day after the device will be released in the United States). With the Aiversary Update, the Elite x3 will pickup some new features as well as some bug fixes. According to the company, the Aiversary Update will introduce Windows Information Protection for the Elite x3:
“Windows Information Protection (WIP), formerly known as Enterprise data protection (EDP), is available with the Windows 10 Mobile Aiversary Update (available on or about September 13, 2016) provides data separation and containment and is designed to safeguard personal information and prevent data leakage.
Unlike most other solutions on the market, Windows 10 Mobile data protection will not disrupt your experience. In fact, no separate container or folder login will be required with WIP. Instead, protection technology will be embedded natively in the mobile platform, which will automatically encrypt data that comes from corporate sources. Corporate policy will have the ability to be set to block, log, or alert any attempt to inappropriately copy, paste, open, or save encrypted data.”
In addition to Windows Information Protection, the Aiversary Update will fix some other minor issues on the Elite x3 — including things like the device taking a bit too long to accept a SIM card pin, or the device not turning off immediately after powering off. Lastly, the Aiversary Update will also allow Elite x3 users recover their previous Continuum session, which can be quite handy at times.
It’s worth mentioning that the HP Elite x3 isn’t supported by the Windows Devie Recovery Tool just yet — so if you’re plaing to have some fun hacking the device or putting Redstone 2 builds on it, you might want to wait until it’s supported by WDRT.
