How to downgrade your Windows 10 PC from the Creators Update to Windows 10 Aiversary Update

Microsoft will be rolling out the Windows 10 Creators Update worldwide this month. For many users, this should be a seamless update with apps, files, and settings transferred over. Many of the changes in the Creators Update are either positive or benign to most users. However, if you’re in the minority who may find themselves needing to downgrade their PC – Microsoft provides recourse for downgrading your PC to the previous update – the Windows 10 Aiversary Update.

If you’re in the minority who may find themselves needing to downgrade their PC – Microsoft provides recourse for downgrading your PC to the previous update – the Windows 10 Aiversary Update.
You’ll have to do this within 10 days of updating to the Creators Update otherwise, this should be trivially easy.

How to downgrade your Windows 10 PC from the Creators Update to the Windows 10 Aiversary Update

1. Launch the settings app and navigate to recovery
2. Look out for “Go back to an earlier build”, you won’t see this if you’ve reset your PC and deleted Windows.old, but otherwise if you’ve just updated it should be there.
3. Select Get Started and f0llow the instructions. This could take a while, but after then you’ll be back on your previous build on Windows

Tip: Remember, this also resets your files and installed apps as well back to how they were before the update. If you haven’t already then you should make backups to your favorite cloud service and make a note of which apps you’ve installed since updating.
