While Google’s current gaming efforts have focused primarily on mobile Android devices, the company is looking to grab a larger piece of the pie. According to a new report from The Information (via Reuters), Google is developing a subscription-based game streaming service codenamed “Yeti” that will work on Google Chromecast or a Google-made console.

The Yeti project has apparently been in development for some time and will make use of Google’s cloud servers to broadcast games to users over the internet. While one iteration of the service is supposed to work with Chromecast, Google is looking to possibly create its own console that would utilize Yeti.

The Information reports that Google has discussed Yeti with developers but it is unknown if they will release existing games into the streaming service or create new Yeti exclusive titles.

If successful, this project could attempt to take a stab at Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now. Xbox Game Pass recently sweetened the deal by announcing that upcoming Microsoft Studios titles would launch into the program the same day they release at retailers.
